6 Ways To Use Leftover Egg Whites

1586

After making all that yema, I ended up with leftover egg whites. Remember from my yema recipe, we used six egg yolks, leaving out the whites. And I can’t discard them just like that because we know that it can still be put to use.

The good thing about egg whites is that you can freeze them in a container and it’ll stay good for several months. Just take them out and let them thaw before using them. They can be ingredients to another recipe or they can be added to your beauty regimen. Here are six every day uses of egg whites.

#1. Leather polish

If you ran out of those leather cleaners, just use your egg whites. Apply it on your shoes, your jacket, handbag and even furniture. Just use a cotton and rub the whites onto the surface of your leather goodies, which will then become clean and shiny.

#2. Pet food

Eggs have plenty of benefits for dogs and cats. Egg whites happen to be a good source of protein, vitamins, and minerals. They also make your pet’s coat shiny. Make your pet’s kibble even more interesting with scrambled egg whites.

#3. Egg White Chocolate Brownies

As I was looking for different uses of egg whites, I ended up with so many culinary recipes like meringue and spinach omelette.  I searched for more recipes and I stumbled upon a recipe worth mentioning – Chocolate Brownies.

Yolks are mostly used in baking but in this Chocolate Brownie recipe from Foodie Baker, the egg whites rule. As the author had written, the brownie consistency remains fudgy and you can’t even tell the difference if whites are used instead of the yolks. Check out the recipe and you can see just how pretty the brownies are.

#4. Face Mask

You can shrink those large facial pores and tighten your skin with egg whites. Egg whites have astringent properties that make it a great beauty regimen ingredient. Just mix 1 teaspoon of egg white and squeeze in some lemon juice. Apply the mixture to your face and wait 15 minutes before rinsing it off. A facial with egg whites is ideally done twice a week.

#5. Hair shine

Egg whites can also be used to shine your dull hair – that is if you ran out of your favorite hair conditioner. Just whisk the whites until they are frothy before slathering it all over your hair. Just a tip though –  add a teaspoon of lemon juice to mask the smell of the egg whites. Cover your hair with a shower cap and then let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse your hair after and air dry. You’ll see you’ll have bouncy hair after.

#6. Reduces under eye puffiness

Get rid of those eye bags effectively by gently rubbing egg whites underneath your eyes. Let it dry up before rinsing. Pat dry with a soft towel and apply some coconut oil.

I had the egg whites from my yema recipe stored in the freezer. Out of all these hacks, I’ll surely go for the pet food. Will be whipping some scrambled eggs for my furbabies!!!
